The Livermore Barns

 There were several structures on this land. The land eventually  is to have a Toyota Dealership built on it. Josh picked two small barns to take down and salvage. The wood from these barns was used for arts and crafts, flooring and decorative walls in homes.

This barn was 192' long and 25' wide. It once housed Llama's in a beautiful setting in Castro Valley, Ca.
The wood for this went to make furniture, arts and crafts and to fix an old barn.

A few very old Pepsi can's were found here. Josh kept those to add to his Pepsi can collection.

A sign for Pony Rides, that was used to repair the barn at one time was found and sold.

The next few posts, I will be showing other barns Josh has taken down.
This barn was the Martinez barn.  This barn was about 60'x40' built with all square nails.
Wood from this barn went into landscaping, funiture making, and crafts. The pictures below shows the progress of taking the barn down.

From the old to the new

It has been a little over a year since the old house was taken down.

All the wood from the old house is gone and recycled into craft projects, new flooring and walls for houses, barns, sheds and retail stores. The furniture has all been sold and refinished or left as it was, becoming new furniture for others.

Most of the glassware has been sold except for a few pieces. A few memorabilia items still remain. These are available for sale at:

The old house sat on 130 acres of land. These acres were what was left of a larger ranch that once raised cattle and grew almonds. The land had been in the family since the 1800's. The couple that owned the land back in the1800’s is buried on the land under a tree.

Where Josh took down the old house a new house has been built and a new family starts their life.

The story of the old house on this blog is over. But this blog will continue with the new projects we have been doing, some with equally interesting stories.

1920 Aladdin Lamp Shade

It is has been a while since I have updated the blog on the old house. I will be posting more pictures of items from the old house and more stories about the house and items.

Pictured is a beautiful 1920’s Aladdin #501-11 lampshade. It is white frosted glass with a clear glass skirt with pineapples in the design. We found out that it is one of the most desirable Aladdin lampshades. Its value is between $200.00 and $400.00.

I was thinking it might be worth $10.00. What a surprise I had when I wrote an antique lamp company sending them pictures of the shade. They wrote me back with information about the shade and the value.

We have not decided if to sell it or find a lamp for it to go on.

We actually have two of these but one has a small piece of glass missing from it. It might be fixable. We are going to put the one with the missing piece of glass on ebay and see if there is interest and if it can be fixed.
