I have a great love of history and stories about people. I love old things that can be made into new things. I love old cars, old furniture, anything that has a story to it.
I have a son that loves to find old cars, barns, houses, well most anything old and sell it.
So this is how this story starts; with my son Josh. He likes to dismantle old barns. He has an ad on Craigslist that states he is interested in taking down barns.
So a few weeks ago, he was contacted by a man who had a barn to be taken down.
Well, the barn was not a barn but a 125 year-old house full of antique furniture, papers, magazines and anything that could be found in a house.
To make a long story shorter, he told the man he would take the stuff from the house and also tear down the house.
You might wonder who would buy old barn wood or house wood. Most of Josh’s customers are artists, craftsmen who re-purpose the wood in many ways and then sell their items.
Now we have the contents of the old house here at home. We have the life of a family we don’t know living with us. For now it is one family, but it might be more than one. So far, the items that we have found range from mid 1800 to 1980.
We have found pictures that we hope to somehow return to the family. We have found schoolwork of a child named John from early 1950. We found report cards and children’s paintings. We did have to look up his name to make sure he was not a famous painter. LoL Just in case we had his early work, no such luck.
I have been sharing this story with friends whom I email a few times a week. Then I thought I should be recording this adventure for Josh and me.
So this is the start of the Blog: The House That Was Supposed to Be the Barn.
